FAQ'S

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR WHEN CHOOSING A BARTENDING SCHOOL?

  1. Make sure the bartending school is licensed by the education department.
  2. Attend a trial hands-on class of at least two schools and then sit in on the graduation class when students are taking their speed test.
  3. Look at their training manual. Make sure you are learning all the trendy drinks served in today's bars, restaurants and clubs!
  4. Is the school fully equipped (for example we have a modern bar set-up, including a POS register, real beer tap system, full premium back bar, ice machine, speed racks, soda guns, glassware, bar utensils, blenders, etc).
  5. Make sure the school is NOT overcrowded. Which is why we do not mix 1st week students with second week students in the same classroom; we have 2 floors, 2 fully equipped bars!
  6. Does the bartending school provide a detailed wine, beer & spirit seminar?
  7. Can you take the entire course as many times as you want, whenever you want without any additional fee?
  8. Does the bartending school have a proven job placement program; a counselor and an online job placement site updated on a daily basis?
  9. Does the bartending school provide a nationally recognized Alcohol Awareness Certification like TIPS or TAM, and is it included in the tuition?
  10. Does the bartending school provide guest bartending experience at any bars giving graduates real experience and added confidence?

  TIP #1

The best time to see the quality of training (or lack of) and the confidence of the students (or lack of) is on graduation day (speed test). Also the best time to talk to the students.

  TIP #2

Take a hands-on trial class. It is the best way to see what the school and quality of training is like. At the New York Bartending School we allow you to sit in on a class whenever you want, take a trial hands-on class, talk to the students, graduates, instructors and job placement staff, with no fee, pressure or obligation to sign up. Afterwards we suggest you go and check out other bartending schools in New York and COMPARE the difference.

  TIP #3

Do your OWN research. We don't expect you to sign up to our school until you have checked out our school and seen the facts for yourself and compared our school with others! Leave your wallet or purse at home when you visit the schools (you can always go back, or reserve your spot via phone, or on-line). This way you won't be pressured into signing up on the spot! "We only have one spot left"  is often used to get you to sign immediately; quite often it is not true because some schools do not have a cut-off!

There is going to be unscrupulous business practices in all businesses, unfortunately bartending schools are no different!" The fact is, if you have already done some research on-line and read the many reviews or visited the schools you will see that it can be pretty fierce, sometimes downright dirty. Take your time and RESEARCH! YOU decide!
